I Was One

Love flowed as blood
as I stood among
the crowds that cursed your name.

They mocked your life
I turned my head
for I knew you wore my shame.

I was one, how could it be
that put you in this place,
I was one, yes it was me
that spat upon your face.

The crown of thorns
I made myself
the nails that pierced your skin.

The tears of God
fell to the ground
as you chose to bear my sin.

I was one, there is no doubt
that placed you in that tree,
I was one, you heard me shout
"is this the King of Kings ?"

Your eyes of grace
broke through my soul
as I fell upon my knees.

Hands of mercy
touched my eyes
for the first time I could see.

I was one, you spoke my name
as your blood washed over me
I was one, I now proclaim
that from death I am set free.
